Jens Holm, MEP for the Swedish Left Party will not be running for re-election in the next EU election. The reason is that he finds being both an MEP and a new father altogether too heavy a load.
“Being an MEP for the Left Party is the most exciting thing I have done in my life,” says Jens. “But it is, in principle, impossible in the long run to have a family at home in Sweden while spending so much time away.”
The struggle for the climate, global justice and animal rights will continue,” he says. “In what form, only time will tell.”
Holm will finish his current term, serving until the election in June 2009.

Tack för din tid Jens! Jag minns hur häftigt det var att någon som tog djurrätt på allvar ställde upp i valet och hur förbannat jag blev när en moderatfjant med minsta marginal fick din plats. Men du kom ju in till slut ändå och har gjort ett gott jobb. Tack igen, för att den rösten inte var bortslösas.
