Climate Committee targets meat industry

Yesterday the amendment below passed in the Climate Committee. Great!

Now this, and he whole report – from Satu Hassi on the EU policy on the Bali summit in December – will be voted in plenary in november. I hope it will pass there too.

(new) Is concerned that a growing part of the earth’s resources are used for livestock raising; recalls the FAO report ”Livestock’s Long Shadow” from November 2006 which estimates that the meat industry and livestock raising contribute with 18% to the world’s total GHG emissions, stresses the need for a international post-2012 climate agreement to include a framework for an sustainable livestock production;
