Launch of new report: Meat and the climate

Launch of new report, Wednesday 13 June 11.00, European Parliament:

Meat production destroys the climate more than transport
Meat production causes 18 per cent of global greenhouse gas releases, which means that the meat industry is destroying the climate more than global road transport. At the same time the European Union continues to raise its already generous subsidies for meat exports.

This is one of the conclusions contained in our latest report ”The livestock industry and climate – EU makes bad worse” by Jens Holm MEP (GUE/NGL, Sweden) and Toivo Jokkala, journalist.

The report also discusses future investments in bio fuels. What consequences will these have on the possibility to feed people all over the world? What should be produced: bio fuels or food?

The report is available in both English and Swedish version. It will be presented Wednesday 13 June 2007 at 11.00 in room ASP 07F 270, European Parliament, Brussels. Jens Holm and Toivo Jokkala will participate.

If possible, please let us know if you will attend by emailing roger.falk@europarl.europa.eu
