Press conference

MEPs Jens Holm, from the GUE/NGL and Françoise Castex, from the PES

Invite you to a press conference:
Mandelson’s ”Global Europe” strategy:

Impacts on social rights and on the environment
Tuesday 22nd of May, 13:30
Press Room, European Parliament, Strasbourg

They will invite the following speakers:
·         Heo Young-koo, Vice president of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions
·         Lee Seung Hoo, President of the Korean Association of Dairy and Beef Farmers
·         Frédéric Viale, ATTAC France / Seattle to Brussels Network

After the European Council on the 23rd of April, the European Parliament will approve on Tuesday the 22nd of May the Caspary report on the strategy proposed by Commissioner Peter Mandelson in his communication ”Global Europe: Competing in the world”.

This strategy proposes more bilateral free-trade agreements between the EU and other regions of the world and the dismantling of European regulations that are considered to be against the objective of competitiveness. It may have serious consequences for social rights and for the environment in Europe and in third countries. The Korean trade Unions are already seriously concerned about the impact the new FTA between the EU and South Korea will have on workers and farmers.

The inviting MEPs and the representatives of European and Korean social movements will present their critical analyses of this strategy as well as the reaction of their organization towards the new orientations of the EU.
